The Story of S3

S3 Simply Social Sports (formerly Singles Social Sports) was born and raised in the city of Chicago. The Founder of S3 found himself wanting to escape the cold and lonely winters – and figured he wasn’t the only guy stuck at home. How great it would be, he thought, to be active, meet others, and play in a social sports league. So what did he spend that winter doing? Creating it.

Why? It seems like everyone wants to play on co-ed recreational sports teams, but often times find it difficult to organize a group of friends to sign up a whole squad. But what if you could join a team either by yourself or with a couple of friends while knowing that everyone on that team is ready to meet new people? Yeah, that’s what we thought.

The franchise grew to New York City where the founder of S3 Boston, Jessica, played in NYC’s first {singles} softball league with her wing-woman. Three years later, Jessica moved to Boston to start a new S3 league of her own. S3 Boston started out as a singles league in 2013 but grew into a social league in 2017.

S3 Leagues are more than just leagues. By putting you on a team of players with others your age from your neighborhood, we offer a unique social experience where meeting new friends and making a connection are just as important as the sports themselves. We pride ourselves in running the most fun, welcoming, personal leagues in the city. And we put together some pretty incredible league-wide events throughout the season.

Frequently Asked Questions

I’m not athletic… are these leagues right for me? Expand

Of course! We run recreational social leagues for singles. While we will be playing sports which involves trying to win, we are all here to meet new people and just have a good time. The leagues are just the catalyst for us to get together, but getting to know the other players at the league’s sponsor bar is the best part!

When is the deadline to sign up? Expand

Our leagues all have very limited space and sell out quickly, so registration will close once all spots are taken on the teams. We often close registration several weeks before the first game to get organized, make teams and have our “Get to know your team” Initial Event, so if you’d like to play join right away!

Does my team need to find its own sponsor bar to go to after games? Expand

Nope! That’s the best part about these leagues. The whole point is for us to ALL go to the same place after games to hang out. We work out great specials for you at our sponsors, and offer free pitchers of beer for most leagues. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.

What is the general age range of participants in this league? I don’t want to be the youngest or oldest person there. Expand

Our league forms teams with participants 21-42 years of age. Teams will be formed with about a 4-8 year age range from youngest to oldest. For example, if you’re 28, you might be on a team of 24-28, 25-32 or 28-34 year olds. If you have a preference, just shoot us an email and we’ll make sure to hook it up. We also do our best to also have you compete against teams around your age group. While you play with those in your general age group, you will be having a beer with everyone!

I don’t live in the city, but I want to play! Can I join? Expand

Of course you can. There are always players from various suburbs around the Boston area. Come spend some time in the city.

How many friends can I join with? Expand

You can join as a team if you’d like, or you can join with a couple friends and let us fill your team with new people. All of your friends are welcome to join, but don’t be afraid to sign up with just one friend or even solo. 85% of players join by themselves. It’s effortless to make friends and meet people in these leagues.

How are the teams put together? Expand

We organize each team by age range and the neighborhood you live in. We take into account all friend requests and make sure teams are split half guys, half girls.

How can I really meet someone and get to know them while playing? Expand

The best thing about these leagues are that they really are “more than just a league.” After each game all teams will head to our sponsor bar to hang out and socialize. You will have more than enough opportunities to approach the girl or guy of your dreams.

Are there playoffs? Expand

There are playoffs in every league based on season records. Every team makes it in and we divide the standings into two divisions, giving everyone a fair chance to win a prize! Some leagues have multiple week playoffs while some have a tournament structure.

Is there a refund policy? Just in case I move or get injured. Expand

League fees are fully refundable if the player sends an email requesting a refund more than 21 days before the scheduled first game date.At or within 21 calendar days of your season’s first game date, refunds are not allowed for the following reasons including but not limited to inability to play due to injury, illness, relocation, non-singleness, etc. The full refund policy is available here. You can also email Jessica: jess@s3boston.com at any time to find out if you are eligible for a refund.
